Are you a landlord? Great news, there are a number of situations where you may be able to claim exemptions (or identify funding solutions) from the Domestic Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard (MEES) Regulations – which set a minimum energy efficiency level for domestic private rented properties.
The Regulations apply to all domestic private rented properties that are let on specific types of tenancy agreement or legally required to have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).
Exemptions must be registered on the central PRS Exemptions Register and even more great news, we are experts in supporting landlords through the full exemptions process starting with your MEES Compliance Report.
What exemptions are there?
As a landlord, some of the exemptions for which you may qualify are:
- High cost exemption
- Wall insulation exemption
- Third party consent exemption
- Property devaluation exemption
- Temporary exemption due to recently becoming a landlord
- All relevant improvements made exemption
Home Energy Grants
The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) is a Government energy efficiency scheme that aims to reduce carbon emissions by fitting energy-saving measures. In addition to ECO, there are several other options that we can help you apply for under the Government’s “Help to Heat” schemes.
We can also help you find local authority grants i.e., ECO4 Flex, which you may be eligible for.
Homeowners, landlords or tenants can receive thousands towards achieving the listed EPC recommendations. To be eligible, you must be in receipt of some form of benefits or tax credit.

Let’s get startedSimple energy saving tips
Being aware of your day-to-day actions and habits can help to reduce your energy consumption. Here are some of the most simple, yet impactful changes you can make to help save your money and protect our environment.
The savings indicated are on a ‘per year’ basis.
Open your curtains
Keeping curtains open on sunny days to attract natural warmth into your home.
No more standby
Leaving appliances on standby wastes energy – switching them off at the plug could save you £35 a year.
Use a cooler laundry setting
Washing your clothes at 30º could save you more than £20 a year.
Be careful with that cuppa
When you’re making a hot drink, boil only the water you need – this could save you £6 a year.
Take shorter showers
Taking just 1 minute less in the shower can save you at least £17 a year.
Close your curtains
Retaining heat in your home is easy, by closing your curtains at dusk.
Turn down the thermostat
Turning your thermostat down by just 1ºC can save a whopping £55 a year.
Fill it up
Only using your dishwasher and washing machine when they have a full load will help you save.

Print or downloadThe standard government EPC uses different calculations for energy and CO2 savings. The Vibrant savings are updated every quarter and reflect current energy prices. Retrofit recommendations are also calculated differently and are regularly updated to ensure they are closer to current installer prices.

Additional measures you may want to consider.
This measure will not contribute to your potential energy rating improvement as it is not currently recognised in the government EPC database.
The costs are calculated by Vibrant and updated twice a year to better reflect installer prices.
